DECREE-LAW

OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL NO. 017/SL ON MARCH 6, 1959

 

PRESIDENT OF THE VIETNAMESE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC

WHEREAS the National Assembly of the Vietnamese Democratic Republic at its eighth session decided to elevate the Ethnic Group Committee to the Ethnic Group Commission under the Council of Ministers and grant it powers and responsibilities equivalent to those of a Ministry;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CHAIRMAN ISSUES THIS DECREE-LAW:

Article 1

The Ethnic Group Commission shall have the task of assisting the Government in studying and implementing ethnic policies aimed at strengthening unity among ethnic groups on the principle of equality and mutual assistance, and creating conditions for minority ethnic groups to progress rapidly in all aspects under socialism.

Article 2

The Ethnic Group Commission consists of a Director, several Deputy Directors, and Commissioners selected from various ethnic groups within the country.

Article 3

Specific tasks and organizational structure of the Ethnic Group Commission shall be stipulated by the Prime Minister.

Article 4

The Prime Minister is responsible for enforcing this decree-law.
