DECREE-LAW

OF THE PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE NO. 020/SL ON MARCH 23, 1959

THE PRESIDENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM

WHEREAS Decree-Law No. 198 - SL dated June 13, 1948 established procedures for setting up and modifying administrative boundaries of local units;

WHEREAS Decree-Law No. 263-SL dated July 1, 1956 established the Viet Bac Autonomous Region;

WHEREAS Law No. 110 - SL/LT2 dated May 31, 1958 organized local government;

WHEREAS a resolution of the Council of Ministers on March 26, 1958 concerning the improvement of state administrative machinery;

AT THE PROPOSAL OF THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS;

ISSUES THIS DECREE-LAW:

Article 1

The administrative level of Lào - Hà - Yên is abolished, and the province of Hà Giang is merged into the Viet Bac Autonomous Region. Provisionally, the provinces of Lào Cai and Yên Bái are placed under direct leadership of the Government.

Article 2

The Prime Minister shall be responsible for implementing this Decree-Law.
