DECISION OF THE PRIME MINISTER

Regarding the establishment of the Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons

PRIME MINISTER

Pursuant to the Government Organization Law dated September 30, 1992;

Considering the proposal of the Minister, Head of the Organization-Cadre Department of the Government;

After consultation with the Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front,

 

DECISION:

Article 1. The Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons is hereby established. The composition of the Committee includes:

Chairman: Mr. Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister.

Vice Chairman in charge: Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Vice Chairman: Mr. Do Nguyen Phuong, Minister of Health.

Vice Chairman: Mr. Nguyen Tuc, member of the Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Vice Chairman: Mr. Pham Khue, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly.

Members: Representatives from the Central Party Committee's Ideology and Culture Department, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture and Information, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam Sports Committee, Vietnam General Confederation of Trade Unions, Vietnam Farmers' Association, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam Veterans Association.

Article 2. The Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons shall have the following tasks:

1. Organize extensive propaganda on the significance of the International Year of Older Persons, summarize and introduce achievements in research, health protection, and care for older persons in Vietnam and worldwide.

2. Develop and direct the implementation nationwide of plans to respond to the International Year of Older Persons.

3. Highlight exemplary activities of older persons in social life and the achievements of organizations and individuals in caring for older persons.

4. Implement international relations related to the tasks specified in Clauses 1, 2, and 3 of this Article.

Article 3. The administrative support staff for the Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons shall be provided by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. The operating funds of the Committee shall be provided by the State through the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. The Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons shall stipulate the operational regulations of the Committee.

Article 4. The Vietnam National Committee for the International Year of Older Persons will be dissolved at the beginning of 2000, upon completion of the tasks specified in Article 2 of this Decision.

Article 5. THIS DECISION SHALL TAKE EFFECT 15 DAYS AFTER THE DATE OF SIGNATURE.

Article 6. Ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, heads of government-affiliated agencies, Chairpersons of provincial People's Committees under central cities are responsible for implementing this Decision./.
