DECREEOF THE GOVERNMENT

Regarding the establishment of Lai Chau town and the establishment of district towns

under Tam Duong, Phong Tho districts, Lai Chau province

THE GOVERNMENT

Pursuant to the Law on Organization of the Government dated December 25, 2001;

Considering the proposal of the Minister of Home Affairs and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lai Chau province,

DECREE:

Article 1. Now establish Lai Chau town on the basis of adjusting the administrative boundaries of Tam Duong district and establish district towns under Tam Duong, Phong Tho districts, Lai Chau province as follows:

1. Establish Lai Chau town - provincial capital town of Lai Chau province based on the entire natural area and population of Phong Tho town, Nam Long commune, Tam Duong commune, and 550 hectares of natural area and 1,167 people of Su Phai commune of Tam Duong district.

Lai Chau town has 7,083 hectares of natural area and 18,089 people.

Administrative boundaries of Lai Chau town: East, South, and North border Tam Duong district; West borders Si Ma Cau district.

2. Establish wards and adjust administrative boundaries of communes, rename communes under Lai Chau town:

a) Establish Quyet Thang ward based on 383.30 hectares of natural area and 3,969 people of Phong Tho town, 225 hectares of natural area and 1,096 people of Nam Long commune.

Quyet Thang ward has 608.30 hectares of natural area and 5,065 people.

Administrative boundaries of Quyet Thang ward: East borders Dien Ket ward; West borders Nam Long commune; South borders Tam Duong district; North borders Nam Long commune and Tam Duong district.

b) Establish Tan Phong ward based on 523 hectares of natural area and 4,094 people of Phong Tho town, 298 people of Nam Long commune.

Tan Phong ward has 523 hectares of natural area and 4,392 people.

Administrative boundaries of Tan Phong ward: East borders San Thang commune; West borders Dien Ket ward; South and North border Tam Duong district.

c) Establish Dien Ket ward based on 227.70 hectares of natural area and 3,486 people of Phong Tho town, 175.30 hectares of natural area and 141 people of Su Phai commune.

Dien Ket ward has 403 hectares of natural area and 3,627 people.

Administrative boundaries of Dien Ket ward: East borders Tan Phong ward; West borders Quyet Thang ward; South borders Tan Phong ward and Tam Duong district; North borders Tam Duong district.

d) Adjust 374.70 hectares of natural area and 1,026 people of Su Phai commune to be managed by Nam Long commune.

After adjusting administrative boundaries, Nam Long commune has 2,977.70 hectares of natural area and 1,272 people.

đ) Rename Tam Duong commune to San Thang commune.

After adjusting administrative boundaries and establishing wards, Lai Chau town has 7,083 hectares of natural area and 18,089 people, with 5 subordinate administrative units including Quyet Thang, Tan Phong, Dien Ket wards and Nam Long, San Thang communes.

After adjusting administrative boundaries and establishing Lai Chau town:

Tam Duong district retains 75,760.70 hectares of natural area and 42,131 people, with 12 subordinate administrative units including Su Phai, Na Tam, Kun Ha, Ban Hon, Ban Giang, Nung Nang, Ho Thu, Ta Leng, Then Sin, Lan Nhi Thang, Binh Lu, Ban Bo communes.

Su Phai commune of Tam Duong district retains 2,000.20 hectares of natural area and 1,296 people.

3. Establish Tam Duong town - district town of Tam Duong district based on 2,300 hectares of natural area and 4,456 people of Binh Lu commune.

Administrative boundaries of Tam Duong town: East borders Binh Lu commune; West borders Ho Thu, Ban Hon communes; South borders Binh Lu commune; North borders Binh Lu, Ho Thu communes.

After adjusting administrative boundaries and establishing Tam Duong town, Binh Lu commune retains 14,839 hectares of natural area and 6,208 people.

4. Establish Phong Tho town - district town of Phong Tho district based on 100 hectares of natural area of Hoang Then commune, 3,495.20 hectares of natural area and 2,715 people of Muong So commune, and 1,350 people (staff of county agencies and units) within the area.

Phong Tho town has 3,595.20 hectares of natural area and 4,065 people.

Administrative boundaries of Phong Tho town: East borders Muong So, Khong Lao communes; West borders Si Ma Cau district; South borders Si Ma Cau district; North borders Hoang Then commune.

After adjusting administrative boundaries and establishing Phong Tho town:

Hoang Then commune retains 6,210 hectares of natural area and 2,880 people.

Muong So commune retains 3,796.80 hectares of natural area and 3,226 people.

Article 2. This Decree shall take effect fifteen days after its publication in the Official Gazette. All previous provisions contrary to this Decree are hereby abolished.

Article 3. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lai Chau province, the Minister of Home Affairs, and the Heads of related agencies are responsible for implementing this Decree.
