DECREE

Regarding the adjustment of administrative boundaries and renaming of Lai Chau town to town

 Mường Lay commune, renaming Mường Lay district and Mường Lay town in Mường Chà district, Dien Bien province name,

  and Mường Chà town, Dien Bien province

THE GOVERNMENT

Pursuant to the Law on Organization of the Government dated December 25, 2001;

Considering the proposal of the Minister of Interior and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province,

DECREE:

Article 1. Now, the administrative boundaries are adjusted to expand Lai Chau town and rename Lai Chau town to Mường Lay town, rename Mường Lay district to Mường Chà district, and rename Mường Lay town under Mường Lay district to Mường Chà town, Dien Bien province as follows:

1. Transfer the entire area of 6,167.50 hectares and 4,428 population of Lay Nua commune under Mường Lay district to be managed by Lai Chau town.

 Rename Lai Chau town to Mường Lay town.

2. Rename Mường Lay district to Mường Chà district.

3. Rename Mường Lay town under Mường Chà district to Mường Chà town.

After adjusting the administrative boundaries and renaming the administrative units:

- Mường Lay town has 11,403.50 hectares of natural area and 14,379 population, with 3 subordinate administrative units including the wards: Song Da, Na Lay and Lay Nua commune.

Administrative boundary of Mường Lay town: East, West and South border Mường Chà district; North borders Lai Chau province.

- Mường Chà district has 176,385 hectares of natural area and 43,664 population, with 10 subordinate administrative units including communes Mường Tung, Sa Tong, Pa Ham, Huu Ngai, Hou Leng, Cha Nua, Cha To, Si Pa Phin, Muong Mun and Mường Chà town.

Article 2. This Decree shall take effect fifteen days after its publication in the Official Gazette. All previous provisions contrary to this Decree are hereby abolished.

Article 3. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province, the Minister of Interior and heads of related agencies are responsible for implementing this Decree./.
