DECREE-LAW

NO. 5 OF SEPTEMBER 5, 1945 

THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM

Pursuant to the declaration of abdication by Emperor Bao Dai on August 24, 1945,

Pursuant to the declaration of August 28, 1945 establishing the provisional government of the democratic republic,

After deliberation and approval by the Council of Ministers,

 

DECREE-LAW:

Clause I: The Que Ly flag is abolished.

Clause II: The national flag of Vietnam shall be as follows:

a) Rectangular shape, with width two-thirds of the length;

b) Red background, with a golden five-pointed star in the center;

The dimensions and form are specified in the annex to this decree-law.

Clause III: The Minister of Interior Affairs is hereby authorized to implement this decree-law./.

ANNEX TO DECREE-LAW NO. 5 ON THE NATIONAL FLAG

Flag background: length = a,

width = 2/3a

Star: From the center to the tip of one convex angle = 1/5a

From the center to the tip of one concave angle = 1/10a

Placement of the star:

The golden five-pointed star, with convex and concave angles, is centered on the flag, one convex angle pointing straight up along line AB./.
