Regarding the adjustment of administrative boundaries of districts; establishment of U Minh Thượng district and establishment of communes under the districts of Vinh Thuan, Kien Luong and Hon Dat, Kiên Giang province

THE GOVERNMENT

Pursuant to the Law on Organization of the Government dated December 25, 2001;

Considering the proposal of the Minister of Interior and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiengiang province,

DECREE:

Article 1. Adjusting the administrative boundaries of districts; establishing U Minh Thượng district and establishing communes under the districts of Vinh Thuan, Kien Luong and Hon Dat, Kiên Giang province as follows:

1. Adjusting the administrative boundaries of An Bien district, An Minh district, and Vinh Thuan district to establish U Minh Thượng district, Kiên Giang province:

Establishing U Minh Thượng district based on adjusting 7,135.82 hectares of natural area and 18,843 population (including the entire natural area and population of Thanh Yen commune and Thanh Yen A commune) from An Bien district; 13,376.67 hectares of natural area and 10,877 population (including the entire natural area and population of An Minh Bac commune) from An Minh district; 22,757.81 hectares of natural area and 38,356 population (including the entire natural area and population of Minh Thuan commune, Vinh Hoa commune, and Hoa Chanh commune) from Vinh Thuan district.

U Minh Thuong district has 43,270.30 hectares of natural area and 68,076 population, with 06 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: Thanh Yen, Thanh Yen A, An Minh Bac, Minh Thuan, Vinh Hoa, and Hoa Chanh.

The administrative boundary of U Minh Thuong district: East borders Vinh Thuan district; West borders An Bien district and An Minh district; South borders Ca Mau province; North borders Go Quao district.

2. Adjusting the administrative boundaries of Binh An commune, Son Kien commune, and Vinh Phong commune to establish Binh Tri commune, Son Binh commune, and Phong Dong commune under Kien Luong district, Hon Dat district, and Vinh Thuan district:

a) Establishing Binh Tri commune under Kien Luong district based on adjusting 5,778.99 hectares of natural area and 6,600 population from Binh An commune;

Binh Tri commune has 5,778.99 hectares of natural area and 6,600 population;

The administrative boundary of Binh Tri commune: East borders Binh Giang commune, Hon Dat district; West borders Binh An commune; South borders the West Sea; North borders Kien Binh commune and Kien Luong town.

b) Establishing Son Binh commune under Hon Dat district based on adjusting 3,571.53 hectares of natural area and 8,288 population from Son Kien commune.

Son Binh commune has 3,571.53 hectares of natural area and 8,288 population. The administrative boundary of Son Binh commune: East borders Soc Son town; West borders Tho Son commune; South borders the West Sea; North borders Son Kien commune.

c) Establishing Phong Dong commune under Vinh Thuan district based on adjusting 2,557 hectares of natural area and 5,949 population from Vinh Phong commune.

Phong Dong commune has 2,557 hectares of natural area and 5,949 population.

The administrative boundary of Phong Dong commune: East borders Vinh Loc commune, Hong Dan district, Bac Lieu province; West borders Vinh Phong commune; South borders Ninh Thanh Loi commune, Hong Dan district, Bac Lieu province; North borders Vinh Binh Nam commune and Vinh Thuan town.

After adjusting the administrative boundaries to establish communes and districts:

- Binh An commune remains with 4,055 hectares of natural area and 8,279 population.

Kien Luong district has 13 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: Vinh Dieu, Vinh Phu, Son Hai, Duong Hoa, Hoa Duyen, Binh An, Binh Tri, Phu My, Phu Lioi, Tan Khanh Hoa, Kien Binh, Hon Nghia, and Kien Luong town.

- Son Kien commune remains with 5,310.60 hectares of natural area and 10,534 population.

Hon Dat district has 14 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: My Thuan, Binh Giang, My Phuc, Nam Thai Son, My Hiep Son, Son Kien, Son Binh, Tho Son, Binh Son, My Lam, Linh Huy, My Thai, Soc Son town, and Hon Dat town.

- Vinh Phong commune remains with 9,224.98 hectares of natural area and 13,226 population.

Vinh Thuan district has 07 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: Vinh Thuan, Vinh Binh Bac, Tan Thuan, Vinh Phong, Phong Dong, Vinh Binh Nam, and Vinh Thuan town.

An Bien district remains with 40,028.98 hectares of natural area and 123,678 population, with 09 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: Nam Thai A, Nam Thai, Tay Yen A, Tay Yen, Hung Yen, Dong Yen, Nam Yen, Dong Thai, and Thu Ba town. An Minh district remains with 59,055.71 hectares of natural area and 120,193 population, with 11 administrative units directly under it, including the communes: Dong Thanh, Tan Thanh, Thuan Hoa, Van Khanh Dong, Van Khanh Tay, Van Khanh, Dong Hung, Dong Hung A, Dong Hung B, Dong Hoa, and Thuy 11 town.

Kiên Giang province has 14 administrative units directly under it, including the districts: Kien Luong, Hon Dat, Giom Rieng, Go Quao, Chau Thanh, Tan Hiep, An Bien, An Minh, Vinh Thuan, U Minh Thuong, Kien Hai, Phu Quoc, Ha Tien town, and Rach Gia city.

Article 2. This Decree takes effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. All previous regulations contrary to this Decree are hereby abolished.

Article 3. The Minister of Interior, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province, and the Heads of relevant agencies are responsible for implementing this Decree./.
