DECREE

OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM

NUMBER 58 ON JUNE 6, 1947

CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

CONSIDERING that those who have rendered meritorious service to the country must be remembered with gratitude and respect by the Government and the people,

AT THE PROPOSAL OF THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR AND THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENSE,

AFTER THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS HAS REACHED A CONSENSUS,

ISSUES THE DECREE:

ARTICLE 1

NOW ESTABLISHES THREE TYPES OF MEDALS:

1- The "Golden Star" Medal

2- The "Ho Chi Minh" Medal

3- The "Independence" Medal.

Article 2

These medals are used to award or posthumously bestow upon organizations or individuals who have rendered meritorious service to the country and the people.

These three medals may also be awarded to foreign personalities who have rendered meritorious service to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Article 3

The "Golden Star," "Ho Chi Minh," and "Independence" Medals are conferred by the Decree of the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

I- THE "GOLDEN STAR" MEDAL

Article 4

The "Golden Star" Medal is the highest medal of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. This medal has only one class and is awarded to those who have rendered great merits to the nation.

Article 5

The "Golden Star" Medal is conferred by the Decree of the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the Council of Ministers reaches a consensus.

Article 6

During major ceremonies, when someone wearing the "Golden Star" Medal arrives, a special musical salute will be played according to established protocol.

II- THE "HO CHI MINH" MEDAL

ARTICLE 7

The "Ho Chi Minh" Medal has three classes:

- First Class

- Second Class

- Third Class.

ARTICLE 8

The "Ho Chi Minh" Medal is awarded to individuals of talent and virtue who have rendered meritorious service to the nation.

ARTICLE 9

During major ceremonies, those wearing the "Ho Chi Minh" Medal will be accorded honors.

III- THE "INDEPENDENCE" MEDAL

ARTICLE 10

The "Independence" Medal has three classes:

- First Class

- Second Class

- Third Class.

ARTICLE 11

The "Independence" Medal is awarded to individuals who have rendered special services in national rescue or construction.

ARTICLE 12

Details for implementation shall be determined by the Institute of Medals.

ARTICLE 13

THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR SHALL ENFORCE THIS DECREE.
