Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (document number 1251/BNN-KL dated May 7, 2001), People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province (document number 42/CV-UB dated February 12, 2001); opinions of the Ministries of Planning and Investment (document number 1802 BKH/NN dated March 29, 2001), Science, Technology and Environment (document number 889/BKHCNMT-MTg dated April 6, 2001),
DECISION:
Article 1. Reclassify Phú Quốc Nature Reserve, located in Phú Quốc Island District, Kiên Giang Province, into Phú Quốc National Park.
The name of the national park is: Phú Quốc National Park.
Article 2. Location, geographical coordinates, and area of Phú Quốc National Park:
1. Geographical location: Phú Quốc National Park includes the North Island Nature Reserve area, the Ham Rong Mountain area, Ganh Dau, and Cua Can. The administrative boundaries are within the communes of Ganh Dau, Bai Thom, Cua Can, part of Cu Da Commune, Ham Ninh Commune, Duong To Commune, and Duong Dong Town in Phú Quốc Island District, Kiên Giang Province.
2. Geographical coordinates:
- From 10007'07" to 10027'02" north latitude.
- From 103050'04" to 104004'40" east longitude.
3. Area of Phú Quốc National Park:
Total area: 31. 422 hectares,
Where:
- Strictly protected zone: 8. 786 hectares.
- Ecological restoration zone: 22. 603 hectares.
- Administrative and service zone: 33 hectares.
Article 3. Objectives and tasks of Phú Quốc National Park:
- Preserve tropical island forest ecosystems, genetic resources of rare and valuable forest flora and fauna, and unique natural forest habitats of Phú Quốc Island as a characteristic of the Mekong Delta forest ecosystem.
- Maintain and develop forest vegetation coverage to ensure the protective function of upstream water sources, provide fresh water for daily use by residents and sustainable economic and social development activities in Phú Quốc Island District.
- Contribute to national defense consolidation, strengthen the strength of the southwestern defensive line of the country.
Article 4. Entrust the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province with direct management of Phú Quốc National Park.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province shall direct the submission, review, and approval of the investment project for construction and development of Phú Quốc National Park; the investment project for construction and development of the buffer zone of Phú Quốc National Park, in accordance with current regulations.
Annually, from the provincial budget plan, the Ministry of Planning and Investment shall clearly record the capital allocated for the implementation of the aforementioned projects under Phú Quốc National Park to ensure timely progress according to the approved project.
Article 5. THIS DECISION SHALL TAKE EFFECT 15 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF SIGNATURE.
Ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and government-affiliated agencies, and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kiên Giang Province are responsible for implementing this Decision./.
