Regarding the approval of the results of the national forest inventory

PRIME MINISTER

Pursuant to the Government Organization Law dated September 30, 1992;

Based on the Law on Forest Protection and Development dated August 19, 1991;

Pursuant to Decision No. 245/1998/QĐ-TTg dated December 21, 1998;
Based on the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (Circular No. 3638/BNN-KH dated October 26, 2000 and No. 4300/BNN-TCKT dated December 11, 2000), and the opinion of the General Statistics Office No. 739/TCTK-NN dated November 1, 2000,

DECISION:

Article 1. Approve the results of the national forest inventory up to December 31, 1999: The country has a total of 10,915,592 hectares of various types of forests, with a corresponding coverage rate of 33.2% (excluding scattered timber trees and large-canopied perennial industrial crops). Among which:

- Natural forest area: 9,444,198 hectares, accounting for 86.5% of the total forest area nationwide.

- Planted forest area: 1,471,394 hectares, accounting for 13.5% of the total forest area nationwide.

Article 2. Transfer to the Chairpersons of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally governed cities the forest areas inventoried up to December 31, 1999 (attached to this Decision).

The Chairpersons of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally governed cities shall be responsible for organizing management, protection, and development of forests in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Article 3. Entrust the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to be responsible for inspecting and supervising the implementation of forest protection; coordinate with related ministries and agencies to provide professional guidance to localities in forest management, protection, and development; coordinate with the People's Committees of provinces and centrally governed cities to periodically investigate and assess the changes in forest resources to serve as a basis for formulating policies for economic and social development of the country.

Article 4. This Decision takes effect fifteen days from the date of signature. Ministers of Ministries, Heads of ministerial-level agencies and agencies under the Government, and Chairpersons of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally governed cities are responsible for implementing this Decision.
