DIRECTIVE

ON STRENGTHENING FOOD SANITATION INSPECTION WORK

To ensure food safety for the people during the Tet holiday of Year of the Rooster 1993; Implementing Decision No. 114/TTg dated November 21, 1992 of the Prime Minister on urgent measures to prevent and eliminate corruption and smuggling; based on the Law on People's Health Protection, the Sanitation Regulations, and Decree No. 341/HĐBT dated September 22, 1992 of the Government on administrative penalties in the health sector; the Ministry of Health issues this Directive to the Health Departments of provinces and centrally-administered cities:

1. From now until the end of the first quarter of 1993, organize a food sanitation inspection campaign in the locality. Focus on food production, processing, and trading establishments, including rice, foodstuffs, beer, sweets, and tobacco in cities, towns, transportation hubs, and border gates.

2. Coordinate with forces from relevant sectors such as Public Security, market management, and Quality Measurement and Product Inspection Units in food sanitation inspection work, promptly detecting and handling according to the law any establishments producing or trading in fake or smuggled goods such as rice, foodstuffs, beer, sweets, and tobacco.

3. Alongside food sanitation inspection work, intensify public education campaigns about proper eating habits and food safety during the Tet holiday through mass media.

4. The Ministry requests that the Institute of Nutrition, the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang, the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute, the Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, and the West Highland Food Safety and Hygiene Institute develop technical guidance plans and cooperate to assist localities in implementing this Directive.

Upon receipt of this Directive, localities and units must immediately organize its implementation and report the results to the Ministry (Ministry of Health Inspectorate).
