ON DECISION OF THE MINISTER MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION
On weight limits and width restrictions for national highways

THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, the Road Traffic Law dated June 29, 2001;
Pursuant to Decree No. 34/2003/NĐ-CP dated April 4, 2003 of the Government on the tasks, powers, responsibilities for state management and organizational structure of the Ministry of Transport;
Considering the situation of upgrading and reconstructing national highways;
Upon the proposal of the Director of the Vietnam Highway Administration, the Head of the Science and Technology Department, the Head of the Legal Affairs Department, and the Head of the Transport Department,
DECIDES:
Article 1. Announces the national highway routes and sections that have been upgraded, reconstructed, or newly built with a design load capacity for vehicles weighing up to 10 tons per single axle and a bridge design load of H30 - XB80 (listed in the Appendix attached).
Article 2. Motor vehicles with basic technical specifications according to the Regulations on Types of Road Motor Vehicles Allowed to Participate in Traffic (announced together with Decision No. 4597/2001/QĐ-BGTVT dated December 28, 2001 of the Minister of Transport), having a height (height of cargo + vehicle height) measured from the ground not exceeding 4.2 meters may travel normally on the national highway routes and sections specified in Article 1 of this Decision, except for some bridges on National Highway 1 from Cau Ge (Ha Tay) to Nam Can (Ca Mau) where traffic must comply with signs indicating the permitted weight and width limits for the bridge. The provisions of this Article do not apply to vehicles carrying oversized and overweight cargo.
Article 3. When participating in traffic on other national highway routes and sections not listed in the announced directory, the driver of the road motor vehicle must refer to signs indicating the permitted weight and width limits for the bridge and road when loading cargo. In cases of force majeure requiring transportation of goods exceeding the weight and size limits of the bridge and road, special transportation measures must be implemented according to the guidance of the road administration agency to ensure the safety of bridge and road structures and road traffic safety.
Article 4. This Decision takes effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. Decisions No. 4211/2001/QĐ-BGTVT dated December 10, 2001 of the Minister of Transport on announcing the weight limits for national highways and Decision No. 2487/ĐBVN dated September 19, 1996 of the Ministry of Transport on announcing the weight limits on national highways are hereby repealed.
Article 5. The Heads of the Ministry's Office, the Director of the Vietnam Highway Administration, the Heads of the Legal Affairs Department, the Transport Department, the Science and Technology Department, the Director of the Inspection and Quality Management Department of Transport Works, the Directors of Provincial Departments of Transport, Departments of Transport and Public Works under centrally administered cities, heads of agencies, organizations, and individuals related to this matter are responsible for implementing this Decision./.
