AMENDMENTS AND SUPPLEMENTS TO CERTAIN ARTICLES
OF THE LAW ON VIETNAMESE CITIZENSHIP
On the basis of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam;
The National Assembly enacts the Law amending and supplementing certain Articles of the Law on Vietnamese Citizenship number 24/2008/QH12.
Article 1
Amending and supplementing certain Articles of the Law on Vietnamese Citizenship:
1. Article 13 is amended and supplemented as follows:
"Article 13. Persons with Vietnamese citizenship
1. Persons with Vietnamese nationality include those who have Vietnamese nationality up to the date this Law comes into effect and those who have Vietnamese nationality as provided for in this Law.
2. Vietnamese persons residing abroad who have not lost Vietnamese citizenship according to Vietnamese law before this Law takes effect shall still retain Vietnamese citizenship.
Vietnamese persons residing abroad who have not lost Vietnamese citizenship but do not have documents proving their Vietnamese citizenship as stipulated in Article 11 of this Law shall register with Vietnamese representative offices abroad to be recognized as having Vietnamese citizenship and to obtain a Vietnamese passport.
The Government shall provide detailed regulations for this clause."
2. Abolish Clause 3 of Article 26.
Article 2
This Law shall take effect from the date of its promulgation.
This Law was passed by the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the 7th session of the 13th term, on June 24, 2014./.
